We get to meet some amazing people in our day-to-day work, and in particular there is something special about working with a bride and groom to help realise their creative vision for their wedding cake.

To help give you a behind the scenes look at Vanilla Pod Specialty Cake Kitchen, and share some of the amazing memories we've helped to create over the years, we've started our Pod Bride blog, where each month we will share one happy couple, their amazing wedding cake creation and the story behind their big day.

The Cake 

Kate came to our Albion Specialty Cake Kitchen with a strong idea of inspiration for her dream wedding cake. Working with a wedding theme of "country elegance", and a colour palette of navy, pinks and gold, through initial conversations and her tasting with partner Craig, we set to work crafting a design that would reflect her inspirations. 

Three tiers of our signature mud cakes, in peppermint scented chocolate mud, lemon and coconut scented white mud, and white chocolate mud with raspberries, provided the blank canvas for our decorators to realise Kate's creative vision.

The bottom tier was finished in a rice paper print of the artwork from Kate's wedding stationary designed by her graphic artist Kirsten Riley; a lovely signature touch. The middle tier was given a gold lusted finish, and the top tier was finished with gold lusted confetti spots. A wooden topper from The Rustic Heart and a navy sugar flower custom made by our decorators provided the perfect adornment to a truly stunning cake. 

The end result was for Kate "Unique, special and perfectly us. It looked like heaven and tasted amazing. Our wedding cake was such a special and beautiful part of our day."

Reflections From the Bride

Favourite flavour...

Chocolate mint mud - so light and delicious! 

Surround yourself with good people (vendors) ... 

Our wedding came together in such a beautiful way. We were surrounded by a 'Dream Team' and it made the process so fun and fulfilling. From Carla, to our wedding stylist, to the photographer, make-up, hair, the band and the staff at Spicers Hidden Vale, the amazingly talented and kind people we met was such a privilege. Without such a brilliant team of people around me, including my incredible family, it wouldn't have been everything we dreamed our day to be. I never wanted it to end...and I wish we could do it all again!

Live music is a must... 

I recommend having live music - it may be more expensive, however, it is so worth it! It really adds to the momentum of the evening and having a packed dance floor was so important to me.

Don't sweat the small stuff... 

Try not to sweat the small stuff - honestly things won't all go perfectly to plan (my balloons for the dance-floor popped, the best man broke his collarbone the day before, and we ran out of time for the sparkler exit!!) but keep the main thing, the main thing - which is marrying your best friend, surrounded by the people you love. At the end of the day, the moments you remember will the most simple moments of the day.

Have something planned for after the wedding and honeymoon... 

Finally, after the wedding and honeymoon there is a 'come-down' period where you feel like 'what now?'. Its such a build up and such a busy time, that afterwards can feel a little strange. Have something planned to look forward to after the wedding/honeymoon such as a mini weekend away or a project in your home, or a girls weekend.
