Christmas is always a busy time of year, and your festive celebrations should be spent with your family and friends not stuck in the kitchen.

As we get closer to Christmas, you'll be starting to plan your celebrations and I thought I'd share my top tips to get you out of the kitchen and into the celebrations. I've also included a simple and easy recipe to spruce up your Christmas bubbles and a craft idea to occupy the kids and get them off the couch these school holidays.

My Top Christmas Planning Tips

  • Plan in advance: know who is coming, when they are coming and if they have any allergies or dietary requirements. You can also cook meat and prepare salads and sweets in advance to make Christmas day a breeze.
  • Keep things simple: while you may want to put on a massive spread, simple is often best and quality is much better than quantity.
  • Get the kids involved: whether it's helping to decorate the gingerbread house or setting the table, kids love to be involved and this will take a stress off you on the day.
  • Enjoy yourself: get to a certain point and then be willing to let go and enjoy yourself without stressing about all of the small things!

Festive Champagne

A quick and simple way to spruce up your Champagne this Christmas is with the addition of a fresh cherry and a sprig of rosemary. The cherry gives the glass a hint of freshness, while the rosemary adds depth. Pour out your favourite Champagne, pop in the cherry and the rosemary and you're done. It's that simple, but is a festive twist on the ordinary glass of bubbles.

You'll Need

  • Bottle of your favourite bubbles
  • Fresh cherries
  • Rosemary

  • Pour out a glass of champagne
  • Place in a single fresh cherry
  • Top with a sprig of rosemary
  • Enjoy

Christmas Garland Craft Idea

With the school holidays in full swing, it's the perfect opportunity to give the kids something to do and get them to help with your Christmas planning. This Christmas Garland idea is simple and quick to make and is the perfect way to count down to Christmas day with your family.

You'll Need

  • 12 match boxes (empty out matches)
  • White paper
  • Twine
  • A black marker
  • Something to go inside your garland, we chose festive gingerbread men from Vanilla Pod Cake & Deli Cafe

  1. Wrap the empty match boxes in the wrap paper
  2. Write the 12 days of Christmas on the wrapped match boxes (we used letters and numbers for visual appeal)
  3. Pop your festive gingerbread men (or your chosen alternative) inside your match boxes
  4. Wrap each box with twin and hang at varying heights (we chose to hang from a Christmas decoration on a wall in our dinning room, but you could easily place the garland anywhere!)
